The Finnish tenor, Niall Chorell, has both Irish and Finnish-Swedish descent. He began his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 1995. Two years later he continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy's Opera Music Department. In Finland, he studied with Jorma Hynninen and Tom Krause. In London, he studied with Janice Chapman in 2003-2004. His current teacher is Elisabeth Werres. In 2001, he won the Lohja Tenor Competition. He was in second place at the Vocal Competition in Lappeenranta in 2002, and the same year he received third place at Timo Mustakallio Day Competition in Savonlinna.
From 2002, Niall Chorell has mainly worked as oratorio and concert soloist. He has performed in numerous productions of oratorios by J.S. Bach, Haydn, W.A. Mozart and Benjamin Britten. In addition to these he also appeared in Igor Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex. He has also performed solo parts in operas by W.A. Mozart, Rossini and Puccini. He currently lives in Helsinki, Finland. |
