The early music ensemble Cenacolo Musicale, connected with the Barroco Europeo Association, was founded in 1993 by Donatella Busetto as collaboration of musicians and scholars who share professional preparation, concert activity and interest in the Baroque repertoire.
Founded on the principles of the most famous musical and cultural associations of the 16th and 17th centuries, (dorms and academies), members of the ensemble reproduce a form of free association, beside the concert and collaborating with internationally renowned teachers, intending to promote cultural refinement of high artistic and professional in relation to the Baroque repertoire.
The ensemble's repertoire ranges from instrumental music, sacred and secular cantatas by composers of the 16th and 17th centuries. The programmes are structured according to thematic tracks ranging from the presentation of a particular author, the deepening of forms and genres, stylistic comparison to more composers , the identification of works composed in view of special social occasions or religious era.
Composers: Cavalli, Bononcini, Stradella, Cesti, Legrenzi, Mazzochi, Colonna, De la Lande, François Couperin, Purcell, Stokes. Organic and unusual forms are available: solo voice with basso continuo, duets for soprano and alto with violins and basso continuo, solo voice and string quartet and basso continuo, harpsichord duo, concertos for solo instrument and strings, vocal quintet, etc. Over time, the ensemble has integrated into its medieval and Renaissance repertoire, songs and repertoire of the 19th and 20th century Europe, expanding its capacity to make proposals beyond the sphere of the Baroque. Noteworthy is the consensus of public and scholarly criticism that the ensemble has been able to gather around their performances including wealth of unpublished works.
The ensemble recorded in 2002 the CD “Gaude, nunc gaude" - Italian sacred music between 1500 and 1700 for the Rainbow label. They are currently working on a project for the performance of secular and sacred cantatas for voice and strings by Alessandro
