The American mezzo-soprano, Marvellee Cariaga, studied at Caalifornia State University.
Marvellee Cariaga is recognized internationally for her versatile repertoire which includes Rossini, Mozart, Wagner, Verdi, and Strauss. She has sung on 3 continents with the opera companies and symphony orchestras. She sang with the San Diego Opera from 1971. Fricka in performance of Der Ring des Nibelungen for Seattle Opera (1975-1981), Guest appearances at Vancouver (1975-1978); San Francisco (1981; and Pittsburgh, Portland and Los Angeles (1987-1988); Rio de Janiero (1979), as Santuzza; Netherlands Opera (1979 and 1982). Other roles have included Wagner’s Vanus, Ortrud, Waltraute, Brünnhilde
(Siegfried), Isolda and magdalena; Donna Anna, Amelia (Ballo in Maschera), Herodias and Kostelnicka in Jenufa; Colorado (1986) in the premiere of Pasatien’s The Three Sisters, Los Angeles Music Center Opera (1991), as Mrs Gross in The Turn of the Screw; Mrs Herring at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillon, Los Angeles (1992). She has also sung with the opera companies and symphony orchestras of Mexico City, Houston, Philadelphia (Carnegie Hall, Verdi Requiem), Arizona (Der Ring des Nibelungen), Santa Fe, San Antonio, to name a few. In 1966, early in her singing career she also sang at the Carmel Bach Festival.
Marvellee Cariaga has often sung with Joan Sutherland, Richard Bonynge, Eugene Ormandy, and James Morris and was directed by Wagner's great grand son, Wolf Siegfried Wagner, Franco Zefferelli and Sir Peter Hall. She starred as Magda Sorel in the PBS-TV's production of The Consul.
Marvellee Cariaga and her husband Daniel Cariaga have given over 1,000 recitals througout Canada and the USA.
