The Belgian soprano and singing teacher, Edwige [Hedwige] Cardoen, began at 7 years of age to sing in Merksems Jeugd- en Kinderkoor (now: Scaldis Cantat) conducted by Lieve Suys, anticipating several solos performances. She also studied piano at the Muziekacademie of Merksem. She continued her musical studies at the Stedelijk Conservatorium of Mechelen and studied singing with An Walker. In 1993 she obtained a singing diploma laureate at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven with first prizes for singing (with Dina Gros Berger) and music theory. She also participated in several courses, including "Das Treffen " in Bayreuth, a refresher course "Liedgestaltung" with the famed Wolfram Rieger, and in the Spanish El Escorial, where she concentrated on music from Baroque and Rococo. After her studies, she studied with Loh Siew Tuan, Lucienne Van Deyck, Jill Feldman and Rolande Van der Paal. She is currently still studying sound policy singing with Ingrid Voermans in The Hague and she cello with Katelijne Van Kerckoven.
Since 1994 Edwige Cardoen sings with Collegium Vocale Gent conducted by Philippe Herreweghe. She has also sung regularly with the VRT-koor, Il Fondamento, Currende, the Cathedral Choirs of Mechelen and Brussels, ... As a soloist she hass iven concerts Zefiro Torna and performed such works as Carmina Burana by Orff, Gloria by Francis Poulenc and Antonio Vivaldi, Lauda Sion by Felix Mendelssohn, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Requiem by W.A. Mozart, etc.
Edwige Cardoen also works as a singing teacher at the Kunsthumaniora in Antwerp and the Music Academies of Willebroeck and Ekeren. |
