The Swiss tenor, Tino Brütsch, received in 1999 his solo vocal pedagogy diploma under the tutelage of Kurt Huber and completed postgraduate studies in vocal performance 2002 in the class of Christoph Prégardien at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HMT) Zürich, graduating with a distinction.
Tino Brütsch performs extensively at home and abroad, chiefly in oratorio, lied and chamber music. He appears frequently with small ensembles and formations of varying instrumentation to perform music from all eras. He has developed a broad and varied repertoire. Over the past years he has averaged over 80 concerts per year including the Monteverdi Vespers, J.S. Bach's Oratorios and diverse cantatas, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, all of Felix Mendelssohn's Oratorios, Bruckner's Mass in F minor, the In Terra Pax, Golgatha and Le Vin Herbé by Frank Martin, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Erwin & Elmire by Schoeck, the Jewish folk poetry by Dmitri Shostakovich, Benjamin Britten's Serenade and Les Illuminations and Arvo Pärt's St. John Passion. He has also created several art song programs with works from Schubert, Robert Schumann, Baumgartner, Arnold Schoenberg, Strauss, Weber, L.v. Beethoven, B. Britten, Tippett, Trümpy and Grieg. Among the orchestras he has worked with are the Zürcher Kammerorchester, State Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Novosibirsk, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie.
Tino Brütsch appears on a dozend recordings with a focus on Swiss music. Among these are Willy Burkhard's oratorio "Das Gesicht Jesajas", works with guitar by Frank Martin, and settings of Mörike poems by Swiss composers for the occasion of the "Mörike-Bicentennial 2004". Other CD recordings include: Othmar Schoeck's opera Erwin & Elmire with the Zürcher Kammerorchester under the baton of Howard Griffiths, works by Michael Haydn with the Zürcher Sängerknaben, Swiss Renaissance compositions with the Ensemble Musicalina and T.L. de Victoria's Responsories with S. Smith.
Alongside his work as a soloist Tino Brütsch loves to perform in chamber formations. In recent years he has worked with the Lautten Compagney Berlin, Capella Angelica Dresden, Marini Consort Innsbruck. He sings with the Zürcher Schubert Quartett and is a member of the prestigious Glassfarm Ensemble New York, specialising in contemporary music.
Tino Brütsch collaborates with the pianist Benjamin Engeli. The Liedduo Brütsch & Engeli offers an array of recitals, and, while enjoying standard song cycles such as Die Schöne Müllerin, Winterreise or Dichterliebe, also canvases rarely heard music.
Tino Brütsch frequently coaches choirs and vocal ensembles on their technical, expressive and musical skills. His technique is influenced by his own work with Tai Chi and Alexander Technique. He maintains a vocal studio for a small number of private students in his hometown of Laufenburg, Switzerland. For over 15 years he has committed himself to the research of art song, rediscovering unjustly forgotten (mainly Swiss) composers and their songs. Some of his findings are published under his own label. |
