Michel Brun divides his time between playing the transverse flute and musical direction of the Ensemble Baroque de Toulouse, which he founded in 1998. As conductor, he is especially attracted by the lyrical repertoire and has undertaken numerous operas.
Michel Brun's repertoire extends from Baroque (Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and King Arthur, Gluck’s Orfeo, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah) to Classical (Mozart’s Requiem and Asciano in Alba) to Romantic (Weber’s Abou Hassan, Johannes Brahms’ Requiem and Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love). He has tackled operetta (Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène and Louis Ganne’s Les Saltimbanques) as well as 20th century music, creating the background music for one of Luc Ferrari’s plays.
As a flautist, Michel Brun is a member of the Pythagore Ensemble – dedicated to contemporary music – with which he has recorded several CDs and performed numerous concerts abroad (Japan, Finland, Spain, Italy, Portugal).
