Claire Brua (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: France

The French mezzo-soprano, Claire Brua, began her studies at the Nice Conservatoire, while also reading for a master’s degree in literature. She completed her training with Lorraine Nubar, Gundula Janowitz and Margeet Honig.

Claire Brua took a first prize at the Paris Conservatoire under William Christie and has appeared internationally with Les Arts Florissants, notably as Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Bastille and in Rome. She worked in the opera school of the Opéra Bastille and appeared at the Palais Garnier in Manuel de Falla’s Sombrero de tres picos and as Mercedes in Carmen at the Opéra-Bastille.

In early music Claire Brua has worked with René Jacobs, Roland de Lulli, Jean-Claude Malgoire and Jordi Savall, but has an extensive repertoire and has appeared in leading roles in French and Italian operas, ranging from Mozart and Cavalli to Charles Gounod. She also sings French melodies.

Claire Brua's recordings include distinguished performances in early repertoire and in French song, a particular interest.
