The Dutch mezzo-soprano, Nicoline Bovens, studied at Lodewijk Makeblijde College (HAVO). She studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium te Den Haag (Royal Conservatory in The Hague) with Marianne Dieleman. She subsequently attended master-classes with Jard van Nes, Robert Holl, Anthony Rolfe-Johnson and William Shimell. She graduated with UM diploma in solo singing with an honorable mention for performing the work Circles by Luciano Berio. Thanks to grants from the Prins Bernhard Fonds and the Stichting Voortgezette Studie Podiumkunsten, she was able to continue her studies with Diane Forlano in Chicago.
Nicoline Bovens is a member of the Groot Omroepkoor (Netherlands Radio Choir) since 1990. She can also be heard regularly as a soloist in oratorios. In the field of opera and operetta she could be heard respectively Spirit, First Witch and Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, Leonora in De spiegel van Venetië by Hendrik Andriessen, Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, Lisa in Grafin Maritza by Emmerich Kalman and Metella in La vie Parisienne by Jacques Offenbach. With the theater group Teneeter she performed in the musical theater shows Kasper Hauser and Repelsteel. She also participated in the premiere of the Judas-Passie by the double-bass player Egon Kracht.
With the vocal quintet SongCircle Nicoline Bovens gives concerts of vocal chamber music for the Vereniging Vrienden van het Lied (Friends of the Lied), among others. Since 2014 she gives concerts with Hilversum 5, consisting of four singers and pianist Ben Martin Weijand of the Groot Omroepkoor. She is also active in chamber music with Slagwerkgroep Den Haag (percussion group), the Ivesensemble and Calefax Rietkwintet (reed quintet). Furthermore, she participated in several CD recordings including Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell and "The wooden branch" of Calefax Rietkwintet. |
