The American soprano, Meray Bustani, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in 2006.
“Sung fetchingly” was the description The New York Times gave Meray Boustani’s performance of Berlin Songs composed by, fellow native Tulsan, Noam Faingold. She has been graciously engaged as a soprano soloist with Tulsa Chorale in performances of W.A. Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, The Celestial Country by Charles Ives, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah and Solomon, Maria und Johannes by Johann Schulz, and Haydn’s Stabat Mater. She has also performed with Tulsa Opera, Land of Enchantment Opera, Oklahoma Bach Choir & Orchestra, Tucson Masterworks Chorale, Canterbury Voices, and Light Opera Oklahoma.
Other concert appearances include Haydn’s Mass in Time of War, L.v. Beethoven’s Mass in C major, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. An enthusiastic recitalist, her recital highlights include Dietrich Buxtehude’s Singet dem Herrn, Heil’ge Nacht and Osterlied by Josef Rheinberger, Louis Spohr’s Sechs Deutsche Lieder, Three Shakespeare Songs by Amy Beach, Ned Rorem’s Last Poems of Wallace Stevens, and Emerald Songs by Romanos Melikian. Her operatic roles include Thérèse/Tirésias in Francis Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tirésias, A Lady with a Cake Box in Dominick Argento’s Postcard from Morocco, Suzel in L’Amico Fritz, Despina in W.A. Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Belinda in Dido and Æneas.
An enthusiastic recitalist, Meray Bustani has had the opportunity to collaborate with some of Tulsa’s finest artists including poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko in Between the City of Yes and the City of No, Trio Aleszky in the University of Arkansas’ KUAF/ Fulbright Chamber Music Festival, Trio Vocalise in Saint John Episcopal Church’s Music at Midday series, Whitney Hollis in Saint John’s Music at Midday series, Lyndon Meyer in the University of Tulsa’s Brown Bag It series, and Joseph Arndt and the Oklahoma Bach Choir & Orchestra as soloist in J.S. Bach's Cantatas BWV 1, BWV 62, BWV 51 (Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen), and BWV 140.
