The American soprano, Aani Bourassa, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Capital University (2004-2008); and her her Master of of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2010-2012).
Aani Bourassa is Classically trained with diverse performing experiences in opera, musical theater, outreach and others. She is active as a professional singer since 2008. She is a versatile actress of emotional depth, praised for her “brilliant, yet sparkling high notes” (Burlington Hawk Eye). Mozart's Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Female Chorus in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, and Juliette in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette. Equally comfortable in recital and concert settings she has performed the soprano solos in L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243), Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 140, Schubert Mass in G, Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, George Crumb’s Madrigal 2and Steve Reich’s So-drumming. She is a champion of new and undiscovered music, and is currently involved in a collaborative project to rediscover and record the vocal works of composer Carl Czerny with pianist Samuel Gingher. In addition to her busy performing schedule, she works as the project manager for Acis Productions.

In addition to her artist in residency at Ad Astra, noteworthy engagements include Larina in Eugene Onegin and Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte with Bel Cantanti Opera; solo recitals featuring the works of J.S. Bach, Purcell, and Barbara Strozzi; Passion and Resurrection (Ešenvalds) as part of the Latvian Embassy’s celebration of Latvia’s centennial; a world premiere of The Night Psalms by composer Griffin Candey and Dona Nobis Pacem by Ralph Vaughan Williams with the Marquette Choral Society, as well as other oratorio, choral, and concert work. Noteworthy engagements this season include Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore with Bel Cantanti Opera and a world premiere performance with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra of works by composer Griffin Candey. She is found frequently performing with a variety of ensembles in the DC-Metro Area.
In addition to performing, Aani Bourassa works as a producer for Acis Productions, a classical recording label, and sings with the Songs by Heart Foundation, whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for those suffering with age-related memory issues through music therapy. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband. |
