The Swiss soprano, Maya Boog, studied singing and church music in Lucerne, completing her training at the Cologne Musikhochschule in 1993 with Klesie Kelly. She was the winner of various awards, notably in the Barcelona Francisco Viñas Singing Competition.
Maya Boog made her début at the Municipal Theatre in Lucerne in Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, and also participated in the Zurich International Opera Studio. Her career has brought her engagements particularly in Baroque and W.A. Mozart operas at the Staatstheater in Darmstadt, at the Komische Oper in Berlin, at the Stadt Theater in St Gallen, at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, and in Drottningholm. The high point of her career so far (2000) was in 1999, when Maya Boog sang Pamina in a new production of W.A. Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Vienna Volksoper directed by Robert Karson and conducted by Asher Fisch; she has sung the same role in the new Kupfer production of the opera at the Salzburg Mozart Week. In 2000 she took the title role in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cockerel at the Bregenz Festival. In the summer of 2000 Maya Boog gave her debut at the Bregenz Festival in N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s fairy-tale opera The Golden Cockerel under the direction of Vladimir Fedoseyev and David Pountney; in spring 2001 she played the role of Ilea in W.A. Mozart’s Idomeneo directed by Julia Johnson and Nigel Lowerey.
In the course of her concert activities Maya Boog has worked with famous conductors including Peter Schreier, Helmuth Rilling, Arnold Östmann, Marcus Creed, Tibor Varga, Helmut Müller-Brühl, John Nelson, Asher Fisch and Thomas Hengelbrock. She has appeared in oratorio and in Lieder recitals, and chamber-music recitals throughout Europe and made her American début at Ann Arbor in J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in 2000. She has also participated in radio and TV performances and made many CD recordings. |
