The Swedish tenor, Ulf Björkegren, began his stage career in 1971 at the Royal Opera Stockholm, where he sang Belmonte in the Entführung aus dem Serail and Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Afterwards he appeared also at the State Theatre of Malmö and at the Stora Theater in Göteborg in roles such as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and Kalaf in Turandot by Puccini, and for several years sang at the Festival in the Schloßtheater of Drottningholm as Nemorino in Elisir d'amore. Since 1981 he was engaged by the Värmlands Musiktheater, and he appeared there successfully as Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, as Macduff in Verdi’s Macbeth and as Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly.
