The Italian soprano, Loredana Bigi, graduated with honors in singing from the Istituto Peri in Reggio Emilia and completed her studies under Randolph Mickelson in Venice. In 2001 she won the first prize in Spiros Argiris singing competition.
Loredana Bigi made her debut in 1993 at the Teatro R. Valli of her city in the title role of Lo scoiattolo in gamba by Nino Rota. She has performed in Italy and abroad (Germany, Ireland, Netherlands) as an interpreter of chamber music and Lieder. She performs, among other works, Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Rossini and Bononcini, Requiem by Gabriel Fauré and W.A. Mozart, Juditha Triumphans by Antonio Vivaldi, Ester by Stradella, Kronungsmesse by W.A. Mozart, Via Crucis by Franz Liszt, Le sette parole di N.S.G.C. by Mercadante, Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini and Liebeslieder by Johannes Brahms. She has participated in numerous theater productions, including Tosca, L'Amico Fritz, Rigoletto and Nabucco at Teatri tradizione Emiliani e Piemontesi.
In 1997, at the Teatro Bellini in Catania, Loredana Bigi appeared in Madame Sans-Gene by Giordano alongside Mirella Freni (Conductor: Bartoletti) and interprets Spirito di Belladonna in Azio Corghi's Rinaldo & C. (Conductor: Humburg). In 1998, approaching the contemporary music, she participated with the Icarus Ensemble at the International Gaudeamus Music Week 1998 and the following year in the concerts of the seminar Di nuovo musica in Reggio Emilia. In Summer 1999, she was selected for the Accademia Rossiniana conducted by Maestro Alberto Zedda. In 2000 and 2001, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona in Suor Angelica e L'Amico Fritz alongside Cecilia Gasdia and Andrea Bocelli. In 2001, she received the special prize for the best performance at the International Competition Spiros Argiris and sang in the summer at the Arena di Verona in Rigoletto alongside Leo Nucci (Conductor: Marcello Viotti) and La Traviata (Conductor: Soustrot). Back in Verona in the 2003 season with the same titles alongside Angela Gheorghiu, José Cura, Ambrogio Maestri conducted by Donato Renzetti; and in a new production of Rigoletto (Conductor: Sutej). In 2002, she participated in the CD "Come" as the echo repeats. In 2003, she sang the role of Jeannette in the l'Elisir d'Amore by Donizetti, conducted by Evelino Pidò, and in October she made her debut in Lobgesang by Felix Mendelssohn (Conductor: Weikert). In February 2004, she made her debut in the W.A. Mozart's role of Bastienne at the Teatro Magnani in Fidenza (PR).
After various roles in operas by Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni and Giordano with conductors Marcello Viotti, Soustrot, Renzetti, Sutej, Humburg and Pidò, Loredana Bigi focused on Baroque and symphonic repertoire, under Weikert, Ceccato, and Diego Fasolis. Since 1998, she has been collaborating with the Ensemble Arte Musica and Francesco Cera, performing a vast Baroque repertoire that spans from Monteverdi and Carissimi motets to cantatas by Alessandro Scarlatti, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and George Frideric Handel, while appearing at the Festival Musica Antiqua in Bruges, Festival Monteverdi di Cremona, Milano Arte Musica, Le Feste di Apollo, Bologna Festival, Barocktage Stift Melk e al Konzerthaus di Vienna.
Among her recordings are the Stabat Mater by Sances in the anthology Ghirlanda Sacra (Tactus) W.A. Mozart's Requiem (RSI) and forthcoming “Missa Paradis de l'Amour” by Nasimbeni (Tactus). |
