The French counter-tenor and baritone, Paul Berthelmot, obtained in 2008 the highest honors unanimously in vocal technique and chamber music., while pursuing studies in German linguistics. As part of his studies, he became interested in a varied repertoire which led him to work on both lyrical baritone and counter-tenor registers. Always anxious to learn and to discover music in all its forms, he regularly participated in singing master classes with in particular Gabriel Bacquier, Elena Vassilieva, James Bowman or Nadine Denize.
In March 2009, Paul Berthelmot performed his first role at the Opéra de Metz in Le Grand Prêtre de Iq et Ox, composed by André Bon. Then in May of the same year, he performed at the Théâtre d’Epinal in L’Ile de Tulipatan by Jacques Offenbach. He has participated in various artistic projects in the Grande Région, including W.A. Mozart's opera Bastien and Bastienne, which he performed on a tour with the Strapontin Magique d’Epinal, as well as another opera for children: Brundibar by Hans Krasa, with the Gradus Ad Musicam. In 2011, he joined the Metz scene for Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. In Dijon, in 2012, he sang the role of Brissac in the operetta Les Mousquetaires au convent by Louis Varney. He regularly collaborates with the Gradus Ad Musicam around Baroque music and sacred music projects and repeatedly sings Carmina Burana. In 2014, he participated with Isabelle Donati at the piano in a staging and image of Schubert's Winterreise in Nice. In 2017, on the stage of the Théâtre de Lunéville and under the direction of V. Tricarri, he recreated the role of Pan in the is the Baroque operatic pastorale héroïque Issé by the French composer André Cardinal Destouches. In 2019, he participated at the Festival de Frolois where he was the baritone of Gabriel Fauré's Requiem and in Nancy, he collaborated with Nancy Ducale in W.A. Mozart's Requiem. |
