The Slovak mezzo-soprano, Marta Beňačková, is a graduate of the Bratislava Conservatory where she studied piano, and at VŠMU she turned to singing. She is not related to the famous soprano Gabriela Beňačková.
Marta Beňačková’s wide concert repertoire includes symphonic, oratorio and vocal works from the Baroque to the present. She is a former member of the ancient music ensemble Musica Aeterna. Recently she has been specialising in concert singing, which often brings her to the capital city of the Czech Republic for performances with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Symphony, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Radio Orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, and a number of other leading musical bodies.
Marta Beňačková regularly works with the In the field of opera she has created several important roles for herself, especially from works by Verdi and Puccini. Roles she has performed with the Prague State Opera include the clairvoyant Ulrica in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera under the baton of Martin Turnovský with the Swedish stage director C. Fellbom and the title role of Orlando in Antonio Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso. She first appeared as a guest at the National Theatre in the role of the Countess in The Queen of Spades, after which she sang the part of the Witch In Dvořák‘s Rusalka. In the production of Jenůfa at the Brno opera she has sung the parts of both the Grandmother Buryja and Kostelnička.
Marta Beňačková also takes part in the concert performance of operatic works and works together with a number of recording studios. Her discography includes over twenty titles over the past five years.
Besides performing Marta Beňačková also devotes herself to teaching at the Bratislava Conservatory, and in the international performance courses in Piestany she serves as an assistant to Magdalena Hajossyova. |
