The American mezzo-soprano and piano/voice instructor, Anna Johanna Jakoba Bekker, began her musical studies at the piano at age 5. 11 years later, in 2010, she received her qualifications as a private instructor and began teaching piano. The following year, she enrolled at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, where she continued studying piano while pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. She later returned to Eastman, graduating with Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Literature. At Eastman, she performed the role of Mrs. Herring in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring (Eastman Opera Theatre, November 2014), and sang as soloist in Eastman School of Music: Bach Cantata Series (BWV 150/BWV 78, October 2017).
Over the years, Anna Bekker has had the pleasure of performing as both a vocalist and a pianist in various settings throughout the USA and abroad, including concert tours in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Italy. She has spent a great deal of her musical career as a choral singer, performing extensively, including performances in Davies Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall. In addition to her passion for performance, she feels at home teaching, and she is both honored and excited to be on staff with the Artis School of Music. |
