The American lyric soprano, Olive Mae Beach, was born in Hollywood to James Harold Beach and Olive M. Hobbs. She graduated from Occidental College in June 1947. She was a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra; in 1945 the winner of the UCLA Young Artists Competition; chosen in 1946 by Leopold Stokowski to appear as soloist in the Hollywood Bowl, and in 1947 was the winner of the KFI Hollywood Bowl audition for an appearance as soloist in the Bowl with Bruno Walter conducting. In 1948 Miss Beach was chosen by Eugene Ormandy as soloist in the first West Coast performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 at the Bowl. She was chosen in 1948 by Alfred Wallenstein to appear as soloist in Debussy's The Blessed Damsel with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
Olive Mae Beach married Edgar Charles Pierce and had 1 child. |
