The English baritone, John (Keiden John Knapp) Barrow, was Head Chorister with St. Chads, Lichfield Cathedral Choir School. He studied at King Edward VII Nautical College, School of Navigation, Southampton, and also privately with Henry Cummings and David Keren.
John Barrow started his musical career as Lay Clerk at Guildford Cathedral from 1961 to 1966. His Concert and Opera appearances include: Aldeburgh English Opera Group, Bath Bach Festival, Cheltenham, Holland, Three Choirs, London Bach Festival, London Choral, London Orpheus, Handel Opera Society, Covent Garden, Henry Wood Prom. Overseas he has appeared in the USA, Canada, Brussels, East Africa, Holland, Luxembourg, Mauritius, and Sweden. He has also given Opera Concerts and Recitals.
Recordings: Sacred Music and Songs for HMV; Music for Pleasure, Jupiter, Contour, Turret. He also participated in BBC, Radio and TV productions.
Memberships: Equity (retired); Incorporated Society of Musicians; Royal Cornwall Yacht Club; Mombassa Club (Kenya). Hobbies: fishing, boating, gardening. In June 1960 he married Rosemary Pinsent, and he has a son and a daughter. |
