The Polish bass, Krzysztof Bączyk [Baczyk], received a musical education from childhood as a member of the Poznań Boys' Choir. Later he continued his studies at the city’s Academy of Music, where he was laurelled as ‘best student’ in 2010, before gaining his diploma in 2014. He also took part in master-classes under tutors such as Anita Garanča, David Pountney and Ann Murray. Since December 2010 he has been on the young artists programme of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.
Krzysztof Bączyk made his professional debut at the Teatr Wielki in Poznań in a production of Dmitri Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, before taking part in various other projects. In particular he played the title role in Hamlet by Thomas and sang in La Bohème by Puccini, Aida by Verdi, Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, Le nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart, Der Freischütz by Weber and The Haunted Manor by Moniuszko. He first took part in the Académie du Festival d'Aix in 2012, as part of the Opera Creation Workshop, and returned the following year for the Mozart Residency, winning the Prix des Amis du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Recently he has toured in the roles of Nettuno and Tindaro in Francesco Cavalli’s Elena (a Festival d’Aix production) and sang the First Priest and Second Armoured Man in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Festival d'Aix in 2014. He has been invited to return to Aix in 2015, when he will sing Melisso in George Frideric Handel's Alcina, alongside Patricia Petibon and Philippe Jaroussky. |
