The English tenor, Tom Baarda, studied in the Faculty of Classics at Cambridge University (October 2017-June 2022) , where in September 2022 he joined the Trinity College Choir of Cambridge, directed by Stephen Layton. He has singing lessons with Ghislaine Morgan and Sheila Barnes. He previously sang for five years with the choir of Christ’s College, alongside his undergraduate and Master’s studies in Classics. He is currently studying for a PhD in Latin literature. Title of his Thesis: Empire and Poetry in the Roman Republic.
Alongside singing with the Cambridge University Chamber Choir, and King Henry’s VIII, a consort formed from members of Trinity Choir, Tom Baarda also enjoys performing opera. In November 2022, he performed as Barigoule in a production of Pauline Viardot's Cendrillon in Pembroke College Chapel, and he has also appeared in several productions of Cambridge University Opera Society: Dr. Blind in Strauss' Die Fledermaus (February 2022); Chorus member in George Frideric Handel's Acis and Galatea, (February 2022) and W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (October 2021). For several years he also regularly appeared in musicals at the ADC Theatre in Cambridge. |
