The English baritone, James Arthur, was educated at Ampleforth College and Durham University, and continued his studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, completing the post-graduate vocal studies and opera courses before being accepted on to the English National Opera Operaworks programme. He currently studies with Neal Davies.
His roles include Pritschitch in The Merry Widow for Scottish Opera on Tour, Zoroastro in Orlando at the Ryedale Festival, Simone in Gianni Schicchi for Opera Bohemia, and Noye in Noye’s Fludde with the North Yorkshire Music Services. He has also sung with English National Opera, Mahogany Opera and at the Aldeburgh and Bregenz Festivals.
James Arthur performs, records and tours with a variety of early music ensembles including Stile Antico, The Cardinall’s Musick, Taverner Consort (Director: Andrew Parrott), La Nuova Musica (Director: David Bates), The Clerks and Brabant Ensemble. He toured extensively with Sting on his Songs from the Labyrinth Tour and also sang on his "If on a Winter's Night" album. He regularly appears as a soloist with a variety of choirs and choral societies across the UK, as well as singing with many of the church and cathedral choirs in London. He is a member of the vocal and instrumental ensemble Canzoni da Camera, founded in October 2016.
