The French mezzo-soprano/contralto, Xenia d'Ambrosio, began her musical studies at the age of 5 years with the violin, flute, harp, piano and dance. At the age of 14, she turned to the discipline that would become her predominant passion, singing. She then continued parallel scientific studies of geology (at the Université de Nice Sciences : VALROSE in Nice), and singing, successively forming at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and with Les Chantres de la Chapelle à Versailles with whom she performed at concerts in France and abroad, at the Hochschule fur Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, and finally at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP). Her studies at the Conservatoire de Paris were crowned by obtaining a prize and Diplôme de Perfectionnement.
Xenia d'Ambrosio's voice has evolved over the years to a range of coloratura contralto, exceptionally rare voice, which can vocalize on a range of two octaves and a mezzo, with a dark colour and great agility. She puts her voice for Baroque music and castrati repertoire.
On stage, Xenia d'Ambrosio performed from the age of 20, at the Festival d'Ambronay in interpreting Venus in Perseus by J.P. Lully, sings in H. Purcell's The Fairy Queen at the Opéra de Rouen istaged by Ludovic Lagarde and the title role in Georges Bizet'S Carmen, Then, on the international stage of the Opéra Bastille, she performed various roles: Zia in Puccini's Madama Butterfly at the Opéra Bastille conducted by Marco Balderi and staged by Robert Wilson, Die dritte Frau in Dienerien ohne Schatten at the Opéra de Paris conducted by Gustav Kuhn, the role of the Woodpecker in The Cunning Little Vixen by Janacek at the l'opéra de Paris, conducted by Russell Davies and staged by André Engel and Eldenknaben in Tannhauser by Wagner conducted by Sir Mark Elder. She performed the third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in Lille and staged by Yves Coudray (Ensemble Opalescances).
Xenia d'Ambrosio has appeared in many concerts. To name a few, Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire at the Salle Cortot (Caonductor: Denis Comtet), a Bel Canto recital at the Cité de la Musique, singing under the baton of Michel Santos, in Thamos by W.A. Mozart and Miserere by Hoffmann and in many sacred music concerts (Mors et Vita by Charles Gounod, Mass in D major by Dvorák, Magnificat () by J.S. Bach, Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, Motets by Dietrich Buxtehude, Requiem by Maurice Duruflé, Magnificat by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Les Saintes Maries de la Mer by Émile Paladilh, Geistliches Lied by Felix Mendelssohn ...), Stabat Mater by A. Vivaldi, Gloria, Stabat Mater and Nisi Dominus by A. Vivaldi, in many J.S. Bach's cantatas and several recitals of arias for castrati.
Xenia d'Ambrosio recently joined the ensemble Demoiselles de Saint-Cyr (Director: Emmanuel Mandrin) dedicated to female voices in French Baroque music. |
