ASU Choirs (Choirs) |
Founded: 1950's - Tempe, Arizona, USA |
The Choral Program in the ASU (Arizona State University) School of Music offers ensembles for singers at a variety of skill levels and welcomes all ASU students, faculty, staff and community members into its various choirs. |
ASU Concert Choir |
The ASU Concert Choir is an elite ensemble made up primarily of undergraduate music majors. Members are chosen on the basis of a rigorous audition.
Part of a long tradition of outstanding choral groups at ASU, the Concert Choir has appeared at national and regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Collegiate Choral Organization. Past directors have included Doug McEwen and Don Bailey.
The choir performs music from each of the major style periods ranging from unaccompanied to instrumentally accompanied literature and frequently combines with the Chamber Singers and Choral Union to present major works for chorus and orchestra. |
ASU Choral Union |
Founded in the 1950's, the ASU Choral Union is devoted to singing the masterworks for large mixed chorus. Members are auditioned volunteer singers from the ASU community, including students, faculty, staff and residents of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Many of the members are professionally trained and most have had extensive choral experience. Weekly rehearsals take place from August through April.
Recent performances include William Walton's Belshazzar's Feast, Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bloch's Sacred Service, Verdi's Requiem, Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 and Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky. |
ASU Chamber Singers |
The ASU Chamber Singers are an elite ensemble made up primarily of graduate students in voice. Members of this highly selective group are chosen on the basis of a rigorous audition.
The Chamber Singers performed at the Western Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in 2008, the first such appearance by an ASU choir in 15 years. The group presents highly polished performances of music from all periods, both accompanied and unaccompanied, and joins with other ensembles to present major works for choir and orchestra. |
